Why man vs. nature reality shows are so popular

Deadliest Catch

So you all know how much I like shows like “Deadliest Catch” or “Ice Road Truckers”, right?  I’ve made no secret of it, that’s for sure.   But I’m not the only one, there are millions of fans out there of this style of reality show.  But why? Well, we like to live by the seat of our pants from the comfort of our living rooms, apparently.  Some of it is watching something we’ve never seen before (I don’t know about you, but I haven’t seen a whole lot of king crab fishing in my life, or guys driving big rigs on ice either).  A lot of it is the sense of danger.  The idea that the worst could happen at any turn and we want to see it happen.  America is a nation of rubber-neckers, after all.  At any rate, expect to see more shows like these on the horizon.  The public has spoken and they want to see some more of this REAL reality TV.
