The Beginning Of Reality TV
I was reading an article a little while ago about the best and worst reality shows of all time, no that isn’t the point of this blog, but trust there is one in the works. Anyway in the article it is said that the first reality shows was Survivor, which lead the way for the reality TV craze. I of course have some thoughts on this quote. Now although
I do think that the reality craze kicked into high gear with Survivor, I completely disagree that Survivor was the first reality show, because long before Survivor there was The Real World. I mean if we are talking about what began the reality craze, then yes Survivor defiantly gets that credit. However it was MTV in 1992 that brought The Real World into our lives. It is the story about seven strangers who in a house and agree to have their lives taped and the rest is history. In my eyes it was the beginning of reality TV. Survivor did not debut until the summer of 2000, in fact before Survivor there was also Road Rules. The Real World started a whole new genre of television. The fact that it is still on the air 17 years later has to say something. I think Survivor is a great show, I just think that The Real World deserves some respect and title of the original reality show. I personally think the problem is people weren’t quite ready for a show like The Real World when it first began. Where as with Survivor people were ready for something different. Either way they are both great shows, but in my book The Real World started it all. Let me know what you think?
