Reality TV, The New Way of Casting!
Tonight MTV debuts its newest reality show Legally Blonder The Musical: The Search For Elle Woods. The show premiering at 10 PM EST is exactly what it says, the search for the new Elle Woods to be in the Broadway hit musical Legally Blonde. This type of reality show seems to be becoming all the rage. Last summer NBC had a hit with the show Grease You’re The One I Want, which was a search to cast the new Danny and Sandy in the Broadway revival of Grease. Not to be outdone, ABC and Disney are debuting High School Musical: Get In The Picture this summer. The grand prizewinner will appear in a music video airing during the end credits of the upcoming High school Musical 3.
So what is with this new way of casting? If you think about it, it works well for everyone. Unknown talented people get a chance that they might not have otherwise gotten if not agreeing to appear on the show. Networks such as MTV, NBC and ABC get hit shows that attract and keep viewers, which can be easily lost during the summer months. It sounds like a win-win situation to me. Even if you are not the winner of these shows, it is a great way for people to make connections. Yes this new casting method is different but hey who said different was a bad thing. Me personally I don’t know that I would ever have the guts to be on a show like any of the above 3 shows, but I give huge credit to anyone who does. I firmly believe that you have to do whatever it takes to make your dreams come true. For most of these people, this is their one big shot. I guess you could say being on a show like Legally Blonde is a means to an end for someone who wants to be a Broadway star. I wish all the contestants on Legally Blonde and High School Musical the best of luck.
