Project Runway Uproar
It appears that Project Runway is causing quite the uproar, not the show itself, but where the show belongs. It seems that NBC Universal is none too happy that The Weinstein Company went and sold the show to Lifetime. That is right it is now a battle between NBC Universal and The Weinstein’s for the where the mega hit Bravo show will air. Last week a judge granted a preliminary injunction that essentially halted The Weinstein Company’s deal with Lifetime. I am guessing someone at Lifetime is none too happy with The Weinstein’s right now either. Project Runway is currently filming its sixth season that was set to air on Lifetime in January, as of now it is unclear where or when the sixth season will be.
Basically here is the issue. NBC Universal is saying it should get first dibs on the show or in more technical terms a right to refuse the show before The Weinstein Company can sell it to another network. Well The Weinstein’s are saying that NBC Universal was never granted the whole first dibs or right of refusal thing. Furthermore according to The Weinstein Company, NBC Universal turned down the exact deal that was made with Lifetime. The injunction pretty much says that The Weinstein’s didn’t give NBC Universal a chance to match the terms of the deal before they went and closed a deal with Lifetime. I know this is a lot of legal jargon. The jist of it is, Lifetime wants the show, NBC Universal wants the show, and The Weinstein’s clearly got more money from Lifetime so really all they want is money. See what happens when a show is as successful as Project Runway. I have a feeling the battle for Project Runway is far from over. Personally I don’t care what network it is on, as long as it is on. I will keep you updated on this real Reality TV show drama.
