No More TRL
I know this isn’t your typical reality show but I just had to talk about TRL. There is no more TRL on MTV in the afternoon. Last Sunday, November 16th, TRL was given a proper send off after being on the air for 10 years. The show that gave Carson Daly his start is no more, can you believe it. I loved TRL. In true MTV fashion TRL was given a blowout good-bye with performances by Backstreet Boys, Taylor Swift, Mariah Carey, Diddy and Beyonce, wow that is totally star studded. If you think about it TRL is kind of a staple for stars, especially musicians. It was the place to be. If you get a crowd to form in Times Square outside the TRL studios, think NSYNC* or Backstreet Boys in their heyday, then you knew you had made it. When I first moved to New York the TRL studios were one of the first places I went, granted I couldn’t get very far but at least I was on the street in front of them. Rumor has it that MTV will randomly air TRL specials in primetime as opposed to airing the show daily, but I gotta admit I am really bummed the show is no longer on everyday. I just feel like MTV it was the last staple of what MTV used to be with is the Music Television Network. Now it is the reality TV network that occasionally plays music videos. That isn’t a bad thing, just different and makes me reminiscence of a different time. Alright so long TRL you will be remembered fondly!
