Watching Reality TV

As you all already know from reading my ABC Summer Fun blog, The Bachelorette with Deanna Pappas premiered Monday on ABC. I thought with tie newest installment from The Bachelor/Bachelorette installment under way I would give you some interesting yet random infrormation about the franchise.

#1 – Of the 12 Bachelors only 5 proposed to their final chosen woman.
#2 – Of the 5 who proposed ZERO have been married and only 2 are currently engaged. Byron Velvick is set to wed Mary Delgado in 2008. Matt Grant and Shayne Lamas are currently engaged, but since that just happened last week we’ll have to wait awhile to see if they actually get married.
#3 – Thee was one Bachelor, Brad Womack, who did not pick either of his final two women.
#4 – All 4 of the Bachelorettes have been women who were previously rejected by a Bachelor.
#5 – Bachelor Bob Guiney met his wife Rebecca Budig only weeks after breaking things off with Estella Gardinier, his final rose choice.
#6 – My top three favorite Bachelors were Andrew Firestone, Bob Guiney, and Andy Baldwin. Jen Scheff was my favorite Bachelorette.
#7 – Trista and Ryan Sutter, the only couple in the entire Bachelor/Bachelorette franchise to get married, have been together for 5 years.

Alright so after looking at my random facts I came to the conclusion that the chances of Bachelorette DeAnna finding true love are slim. But on the flipside you never know where you will find your true love, so I for one wish DeAnna good luck in her quest.

So I could only think of 7 random bits of information but if you know of any random Bachelor/Bachelorette information please share it.

• There’s news about “Dancing with the Stars” today, as we’ve got wind of some celebrity cast wannabes. Apparently, Chris Harrison, the host of “The Bachelor” wants to be on the show, as does Paige Hemmis from “Extreme Makeover: Home Edition”. So far, Chris hasn’t been signed onto the show due to scheduling concerns. Rightly so, as it might be a little strange for him to be on a show that led into his own show directly after. Paige says it’s “not if, but when” and that the only reason she hasn’t been on the show yet is because she was in the middle of “Extreme Makeover’s” shooting schedule for this season. But maybe in the spring…
• In other “Dancing with the Stars” news, it’s going to be a video game released for the Nintendo Wii and Sony Playstation come the end of the month. Look to see player interaction with the game (which the Wii is already somewhat famous for). This looks to be capitalizing on the fame of the “Dance Dance Revolution” games while also adding the flair of the ABC reality show. I think this game could be a big hit for the holiday season. • Have you heard there’s going to be a “Celebrity Apprentice”? I sure hadn’t. After last season’s dismal ratings, I thought “The Apprentice” was done for. But apparently, that’s not all true and expect to see this installment hit the airwaves later on this year (or early in 2008). There are already some names of celebrities being leaked, such as Carol Alt, Stephen Baldwin, John Cena, Marilu Henner, Lennox Lewis, Tito Ortiz, Vincent Pastore, Gene Simmons, and former Apprentice cast member Omarosa. Omarosa?? AUGH!
• Do you all remember hearing about FOX’s “American Idol” clone, “The Next Great American Band”? It premiered, apparently, and didn’t do so hot in the ratings. Apparently, this show is no “American Idol”. But as with most insanely popular reality TV shows, you can’t duplicate a hit very well so this doesn’t come as a large surprise. But it’s disheartening to hear that this show is doing particularly bad and that so many people who had their hopes up for it may have them dashed all over again.

Are people still watching this show? I stopped watching around the season that Bob Guiney was the Bachelor and even then, I thought I watched for too long. There must be some people out there who still love it though, because “The Bachelor 10″ is currently under production in Los Angeles. According to a “spy” for New York Daily News’ Ben Widdecombe, the new bachelor, Navy medical officer Andy Baldwin was spotted at a pool at the Loews Santa Monica Beach Hotel. The contestants were apparently doing a sort of triathlon competition, which makes sense since Baldwin himself is a triathlon competitor. Also, the report says that after filming was finished, he pulled a sock out of his swimsuit. Which is pretty funny in and of itself, but wouldn’t he still have been in sight of the women at this point? Interesting!

I’m sorry to say this is a show I will NOT be tuning into. A girl has to have standards and these “Bachelor” shows are quite the trainwreck anymore.

It was only a matter of time, folks. It would appear that Lorenzo Borghese and Jennifer Wilson are kaput. First we had those rumors surface about Jennifer Wilson being seen with another man back in December. The Prince has reportedly been dating Sadie Murray, the 23-year-old publicist he rejected on the season finale of “The Bachelor”. There are even reports that Sadie is moving to New York City, where Lorenzo lives, to pursue her career and be closer to her guy. Interesting, since if you’ll recall, school teacher Jennifer Wilson decided not to move to NYC and instead chose to stay in Miami to finish out the school year.

Definitely can’t say I’m surprised on this one. For one thing, it wasn’t a cut and dry decision for the prince at “The Bachelor” season finale since he had a hard time choosing between the two ladies. For another, this is “The Bachelor” we’re talking about. Not a great track record there!

The Bachelor, Prince Lorenzo Borghese, Jennifer Wilson, Sadie Murray

The finale of “The Bachelor: Rome” aired only a week ago and the couple has only just announced that they intend to take their new relationship slowly. Which is why it might be a little surprising that Prince Lorenzo Borghese’s choice, Jennifer Wilson, has already been spotted with another man.

During the filming of the show, Wilson and Borghese talked at length about her moving to NYC to be closer to her squeeze. Then, it was revealed last week that they would rather have a long distance relationship between NYC and Miami where Wilson is a schoolteacher. Which made sense, since as a teacher, it would be better for her to finish out the school year with her students. But now, it looks as if maybe there was another reason to put off the pairing.

According to the National Enquirer (cue taking with grain of salt), Wilson has been spotted “making out” with fellow teacher Dan Herrero. Herrero denied the claim when reached by the Enquirer, however, a couple days later a photographer from the tabloid photographed the pair “frolicking on a beach together.”

You’ll have to pardon me if I’m not THAT surprised. These “Bachelor” pairings seem to have a pretty poor track record anyhow (the only couple who has not only made it to matrimony but is still together to this day is Trista and Ryan from “The Bachelorette”). I guess this is why I’m puzzled that the show is even still being produced. But maybe people know this is a train wreck in progress and that’s why it still has a loyal following.
