What your kids are watching
Wednesday, December 6th, 2006I always figured the biggest demographic of reality tv watchers was the 18-35 year old set. After all, that’s my age group and we all know it’s all about me, right? But in a new article over at Media Life magazine, the new hot demographic for reality tv is children! Specifically, children aged 2 - 11 years old. Some of the results of this article surprised me (kids are watching “Dancing with the Stars” and “Survivor”?) The journalist was less surprised by these than I was. I just don’t consider them typical kiddie fare.
However, realizing this included shows such as “America’s Funniest Home Videos” and “Extreme Makeover: Home Edition”, I was less surprised. My oldest son, 7 years old, considers “AFV” to be his favorite show on tv. He quite literally cannot see too many groin injury videos, apparently. And “Extreme Makeover” is a wonderful, heart-warming show that is fun for the whole family.
I’m assuming this means we can expect more reality shows in the future that are geared towards the kids.
