“Amazing Race” does it again

Tuesday, September 18th, 2007

Jerry Bruckheimer and Phil KeoghanSorry I wasn’t around yesterday!  I was away for the weekend and that trip turned into a family emergency.  I wasn’t home until yesterday evening.  Luckily the “Big Brother” episode on Sunday night was a recap show and I haven’t missed the finale at all (It’s tonight ya’ll!  Prepare for some liveblogging fun!).  But before we get into *those* festivities, first I must point out that the Primetime Emmy’s were Sunday night!  And reality TV has it’s own award during the big show.  However, it hasn’t mattered in recent years because “The Amazing Race” wins it EVERY TIME.  And this year was no different.  Our pals behind the big “Race” took home the Emmy yet again, even when up against such powerhouse shows as “Dancing with the Stars”, “American Idol”, “Top Chef” and “Project Runway.”  That marks the fifth year this show has won, and the fifth year this award has been in existence.  No other show has ever brought it home.   Somehow this makes me more depressed that we won’t be seeing another installment until January.   At any rate, good as “Race” is, I think it might be soon time to honor another reality show.  What do you think?

Reality TV at the Emmy’s

Thursday, July 26th, 2007

As you may recall, I’m currently on board an airplane due east to the Windy City. I’m going to BLOGHER, ya’ll! (If you’re there this weekend, and happen to see me, say hi!) Anyhow, while I’m trying not to worry too much about what that strange noise the engine is making is, read this listing of reality TV nominations for the Emmy Awards, due to air in September (I think, don’t quote me on that!). I got this from RealityTVWorld.com, so props to them! (list is after the jump, ya’ll!)

Can reality stars be sexy?

Tuesday, December 12th, 2006

I don’t see why not, but I hadn’t ever thought about it before. If you have not only thought about the sexiness of reality tv stars, but have some specific stars in mind, you might want to head over to Reality Blurred and cast your vote for who you think the sexiest reality stars of 2006 were. Cast your vote for one female and one male star as well as your comments about why you picked those particular contestants. Send in your votes by midnight on Friday, December 15th and you could win a copy of the 2007 Sexiest Men and Women of Reality TV Calendars.

Sounds like a fun time. But if Janelle gets picked AGAIN this year I may have to go hurt someone.

Vote for your faves

Tuesday, December 5th, 2006

Over at “Ask the Reality TV Experts” on MSNBC.com, they’re taking nominations for a end-of-the-year reality TV round-up of sorts. Suggested categories include Dumbest Rule, Most Missed Show, Grossest Scene… but the sky is truly the limit and you are only hemmed in by your own creativity on this one. If you’re interested in taking part, just email them with your nomination and stay tuned to that column for voting and results. I can already think of a couple that I would nominate, were I to take part: Dumbest Rule = Non-Elimination Legs on Amazing Race (the ones where you used to lose money and all that? The current incarnation is much better) or perhaps any of the little “twists” that Big Brother has pumped out. Good lord, ya’ll.

Also in the column is a tidbit about how David and Mary (formerly of Amazing Race) cleaned up on “The View” when Rosie O’Donnell showered them with gifts, including a new home to replace their trailer. But interesting to note: in the article it is mentioned that David and Mary are confirmed as contestants on the new All-Star season of Amazing Race, which I believe is due out in early 2007. Other contestants who have been confirmed are Joyce and Uchenna and Rob and Amber. I’m very interested to see who else will be selected. If anyone from Team Weaver is on there, I may have to boycott.

Not every award is deserved

Janelle wins Big Reality StarI was way into watching “Big Brother 7: All Stars” this last summer. I’d really loved season 6 and the “good guys” from that episode, like Kaysar, Howie and Janelle. Save for Kaysar, BB7 changed my mind about all that. By the time the finale aired in September, I had a strong distaste for both Howie AND Janelle. And a healthy respect for Will, which I never expected.

Anyhow, fast forward to last night’s VH1 “Big in ‘06″ Awards show. Janelle, the over-inflated windbag, won for Big Reality Star. She’s big alright, but I can’t guarantee that’s saying anything good about her, you know? I don’t know, maybe I hold too much against her. She was very good at what she did. I just lost all respect for her by the end of the show. But she still was a strong competitor. Perhaps she did deserve this award.

Then again, it is just a VH1 awards show. And judging from the portion I watched, a pretty crummy one at that. So I guess there’s no accounting for taste.
