Something big in the works on “American Idol”
Thursday, December 21st, 2006
The executive producer of “American Idol”, Cecil Frot-Coutaz has hinted at a giant event to take place in the middle of the next season of the hit Fox show, something that will “blow America away.” I haven’t the foggiest idea what this event could be, but I am definitely intrigued! The announcement does come amidst murmurings that the ratings might drop for season 6, so it’s likely this is in response to that. I’m sure this will help rein in those ratings; if there’s something that grabs the average American’s attention span, it’s a juicy stunt!

I just read a story online about how many of the former “American Idol” contestants now hire themselves out for performances. According to a UPI News Service report, these singers are performing at weddings, bar mitzvah’s and debutante balls for a paycheck of anywhere from $2,000 to $150,000. How much depends on the Idol’s popularity, of course, and whether or not they are expected to sing. Of course, this makes me wonder why you would pay beaucoup bucks for an “American Idol” contestant to show up at your next shingdig and not have them sing. Taylor Hicks and Ruben Studdard have been known to contract out, as has the lesser-known Kimberly Caldwell (finalist in season 2) though she goes for the much more affordable $2,000 a performance. So if you have a wedding coming up and the same-old boring DJ just won’t do the trick, you have another option you can consider. For a price.
